THE STORY BEHIND THE ART: I’d pictured whimsical birds for this series, but the crocheted coasters used in the base print reminded me more of Guinea fowl. I’ve called her Patricia, after a school friend’s mom who loved them and encouraged flocks into her garden by feeding them. At night they would sometimes fall out of the trees onto the roof, making a huge thump that would wake us up during sleepovers. They CAN fly but generally choose not to. So, this is dedicated to our moms – a generation of women who often elected not to fly themselves but raised their daughters to.
